Furness Show 9-19: Stewart Mandel, Corbin Smith, Al Kinisky, Brandon Funston.
The Mariners had to watch the Yankees celebrate a playoff berth on their field in another situation where an opportunity was squandered. Criticizing a player for a boneheaded play doesn't mean we don't like him. Players can do that in Seattle because there's a total lack of accountability.  Stewart Mandel, The Athletic gives his instant reaction to the Cougs win in the Apple Cup and tells us why they're not ranked right now. Could the Pac-12 expand even more? Stewart tells us what Memphis and Tulane would consider if they're a target.  Julio's gaffe was an example of a failure to focus, but there are way more important problems with this organization than what we saw last night.  Corbin Smith, Seahawks Maven and Locked on Seahawks joins to breakdown exactly what happened in the Seahawks game and where he seems room for growth. Could Kenny McIntosh have some success in the run game last weekend? Corbin gives us some thoughts on who's getting healthier, and he's got a positive feeling about Abe Lucas once we're past game 4.  The future of sports streaming is more viable than Ian previously thought and he's changing his tune on ways to consume it. However, it can't be only streaming in the future, in order to grow your conference.  The Daily Power Play! Al Kinisky joins Ian to give some insight on Kraken training camp as we ramp up toward preseason starting on Sunday.  Brandon Funston, The Athletic kicks off the unofficial start to the weekend! It's time for your fantasy football tuneup and Funston tells YOU what your roster entails in week 3.

Seahawks won and proved that good coaching actually wins. Ryan Grubb proved he can adjust a gameplan on the fly. Cougs win the Apple Cup and victory is back on the Palouse. There's a lot of room for improvement, but playing below their capability, they still start the season 2-0.   Hardcore Football with Hugh Millen! Hugh starts things out with an in-depth breakdown of the final play call of the Apple Cup. The play was so bad already that Hugh can't believe Jedd Fisch took a timeout and still ended up with that play. Hugh has some very strong opinions on this.   Hugh continues with us and discusses what he saw from Geno Smith in the Seahawks win yesterday.   Mollywhop Monday! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join Ian to give an honest assessment of the Mariners' chances at the postseason this year, which are looking slim to none. They have to either sweep the next to series or at least go 5-1. Plus, is Julio's season really as bad as people seem to complain about? Or does the blame of a season just fall on the superstar every time?   Hugh Millen gave us a very in-depth look at how Jedd Fisch was outcoached in the Apple Cup and we relive what happened in the Apple Cup.   The Daily Power Play! Eddie Olczyk joins us to talk about some new and exciting happenings with the Kraken. Ian's got a brand new role!   Mike Sando, The Athletic joins to explain how the Seahawks succeeded in New England as well as a look around the league and what the chaos in the NFL means as we get ready for week 3. We discuss his pick-6 column as well.

Ian reacts to last night's 49er win, previews the Mariners' series with the Padres and thinks the Adam Larsson extension.   Jon Ryan, Former Seahawks Punter starts his weekly appearance with Ian to tell us what's going on in life after football and just what owning a minor league baseball team entails. Of course, we get to Seahawks talk and Jon gives his initial reaction to Pete Carroll's dismissal. He was really disappointed at first, but after watching Mike Macdonald, he's turned a 180. Despite the Seahawks flaws in the first half, he was impressed with the defense and the way they got things done.   Ian reflects on the changes we've seen with the Seahawks and what Jon Ryan told us about what he's seeing. Also, some thoughts on the new things we're seeing with this team.   Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter tells Ian why we see interleague play so late down the stretch of the season. The Mariners still have the highest upside in this three-week period, specifically because of their rotation. Joe shares his thoughts on Edgar Martinez's approach to coaching hitting. Plus, a reaction to the news that Jerry Dipoto is here to stay.   Why is Aaron Rodgers such a media darling? Nothing was 'his fault' last night. Ian didn't expect the Jets to win last night, but didn't expect them to look as bad as they did on Monday Night Football.    Did the 49ers violate the NFL's policy when it comes to Christian McCaffrey's injury status? We hear from Jordan Mason and Kyle Shanahan.   The Cougar Roundtable with Alex Brink and Mkristo Bruce! Alex and MK tell us what went right for the Cougs this weekend. Brink breaks down John Mateer's performance and what makes him so special. MK highlights the defense and what makes him excited about it. Plus, of course, an Apple Cup preview.

Furness Show 9-3: Joe Sheehan, Cougar Roundtable.
It's Groundhog Day all over again with the Mariners and nothing seems to be changing. At what point do we actually root against the team? It doesn't sound like they're ready to get rid of Jerry Dipoto or sell the team. So, what needs to happen for things to change?  The Seahawks are an example of a team that doesn't stay complacent, as evidenced by the firing of Pete Carroll. Early indications are positive for this season. We take a listen to Jarran Reed and Tyler Lockett, as they spoke to the media yesterday. What does this team really look like? Both seem enthused about the newness they're seeing with the team.  There are a few numbers the Seahawks can flip this year that would make a serious difference compared to last year.  Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter gives us a look around MLB and who's standing out during the final month of the season. The Mariners still have a chance to go on a heater, but also have potential to swirl the drain. Can they make up three games before they play the Astros?  How long are you - as a fan - willing to give the Mariners before you start rooting against them?  The Daily Power Play! The Oilers gave Leon Draisaitl a historic $112M deal.  he Cougar Roundtable! Alex Brink and Mkristo Bruce react to the Cougars' dominating 70-30 win in week one over Portland State. John Mateer isn't just a quarterback who can run - he's a running back and a quarterback. The defense has some cleaning up to do in the tackling department, but things are looking pretty good.

Kicking off the long holiday weekend. Huskies and Cougs start their 2024 campaign tomorrow, but you will only be able to watch one of them.Heidi Watney, Apple TV joins the show to discuss the Mariners’ home stretch of the season before they play on Apple TV tonight. Where does she see the Mariners ending up at the end of the year? T-Mobile Park may be deterring hitters from joining the club. Ty France joined Heidi following the trade with only good things to say about the city but maybe a bit too much information from the analytics group. Where do the players ultimately stand on the analytics side of baseball? Globalization of baseball. The Mariners have a soft schedule coming up but are still in a bad spot with Houston 4 games up and multiple teams to jump in the Wild Card race. Danny O’Neil, The Dang Apostrophe!, joins the show to discuss the Mariners. The team is 4-2 under Dan Wilson, and runs per game have increased. Many of which came in a single game but take what we can get. How are the Mariners under .500 this season with Logan Gilbert on the mound? We touch on the systemic issues that seem to be within the Mariners’ organization and fans looking to move on from not only Jerry Dipoto and ownership. Danny says ownership is the teams biggest downfall and has kept them from success on the field. Does it mean something that Scott Servais did not mention Dipoto in his good bye statement? The city continues to sour on the Mariners “leadership”. However, one thing we know if that winning can cure all. Daily Power Play,  Awful news out of the NHL as Johnny Gaudreau and his brother passed away last night after being struck by a drunk driver. It's exciting being on the precipice of college football - but where will you watch it this weekend?  Stewart Mandel, The Athletic breaks down what we saw in week zero in college football and what to expect this weekend. Plus, how different will viewing be for the college football television audience?  Anders and Jess try to convince Ian to cut the cord.  Corbin Smith, Locked on Seahawks gives his first blush reaction to the Seahawks' final roster and their offense has some solid weapons. He is most impressed by Laviska Shenault this preseason. On the defensive side of the ball, there weren't a ton of surprises. The biggest news items are Uchenna Nwosu not being on injured reserve and Abe Lucas being out for the first four games. The NFC West is going to be rough this year, but the improved defense should push them into the playoffs.  The Mariners did add this offseason, but they also deleted due to financial issues. How sustainable is Seattle's style of winning right now? He describes the missed opportunities we've seen throughout this season. Will the Mariners cut payroll once again?
