Is Crossfit Goof For Golf?

Have you been looking at Crossfit as a good athletic training program to elevate your golf game?

Have you done Crossfit for years and now you want to elevate your golf game, and you're wondering if your Crossfit workouts will help create the strength and conditioning you want to support your golf game?

Coach Brandon spent years competing, training and coaching in Crossfit.

Crossfit Methodology explained from Crossfit HQ.

To state that one methodology is good for everything is really dependant on how you're training in that methodology. You can train in the best possible movement patterns but if your training program is poor or if your coach lacks some understanding in how to train you to move, you might not be doing yourself any benefits. The training program you bring into your life needs to take into consideration what your end goals are.

Crossfit can be good for golf, as Coach Brandon says, it depends. There needs to be parameters around how you approach the training, but the problem lives with the common thread in Crossfit training that promotes high intensity above all.

So what are the most important things for golfers to train to ensure they are elevating their game and improving their overall health?

Most importantly, consistency will make the most improvements in your life and your golf game.

Secondly, there needs to be balance in your training. This balance is where we see Crossfit gyms and programs letting golfers, and in general athletes, down.

Coach Brandon talks about training all different planes of movement for the body. Check our more info on movement planes here.

He also talks about training the different movement patterns. Check out more information on movement patterns here.

Finally, he highlights the importance of using different energy systems in the body. More info on your body's energy systems here.

Your end goals need to consider you end goals and not inhibit your ability to build on your golf game. The sport of golf is focused on short bursts of energy, the golf swing is a power based movement that need to have strong fast twitch muscles to give you strength and distance. So your training program doesn't need to be solely focused on developing fast twitch muscle fibers, in fact, as Coach Brandon mentions, you need to develop all things in your fitness, the balance he brings up multiple times in this discussion. However, Crossfit spends it's time and efforts, based on it's methodology, developing slow twitch muscle fiber and endurance in it's athletes.

But, do you love the Crossfit moments and enjoy that type of workout? Consistency is the MOST important piece in helping you become the best athlete you can be.

Coach Brandon writes an awesome program based on the movements you love about Crossfit called Links WOD. Check out how he balances the development of those different needs of a golfer while still getting you fit and moving you through the type of workout you love from Crossfit! https://www.golfheroic.com/
